перспективная парадигма, методология и методика анализа нечётко структурированных динамических систем с изменяющейся в процессе функционирования структурой - обработка данных с целью извлечения знаний; базируется на идее информационной гранулы (information granule), обобщающей такие понятия, как подсистема, подмножество, часть, класс, группа, кластер, интервал и т. д. Гранула - это совокупность элементов (объектов), при этом элемент сам может быть гранулой, а гранула может быть элементом другой гранулы. Объединение элементов в гранулу производится исходя из их сходства, функциональной близости, неразличимости и т. п. Гранулярные вычисления включают в себя так называемые мягкие вычисления (soft computing) и применяются в нейронных сетях (neural network)
